Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA)

The current law in effect that sets the standards for minimum wage and overtime pay. Employees that are exempt from overtime provisions of FLSA are typically managers or professionals with a level of decision making authority and flexibility in conducting their day-to-day duties. Employees that are non-exempt from overtime provisions of FLSA typically have entry-level technical, clerical, or administrative duties and responsibilities.

Glossary Commission

Commission pay includes cash compensation paid our as part of a commission or sales incentive compensation program.

Glossary Long Term Incentive (LTI)

LTI pay is derived from awards of stock options, restricted stock options, or performance shares, or from regular or one-time dividends derived from these options, or from proceeds of sales of options, or other deferred compensation plans.

Glossary Total Cash Compensation

Total Cash Compensation is the sum of Base Pay, STI, Other Cash Compensation, and Commissions.

Glossary Short-Term Incentive pay (STI)

STI covers all non-salary cash compensation paid to the employee on an annual basis. STI includes bonuses awarded as part of a formal plan, discretionary awards given as a result of individual performance, or other discretionary awards given as a result of organizational performance.

Glossary Other Cash Compensation

Other Cash Compensation includes profit sharing paid out as cash, team or small cash group incentives, spot awards, retention bonuses, holiday bonuses, and sign-on bonuses. It does not include overtime pay, sales compensation or commission, employer contributions to retirement plans or other deferred compensation.

Glossary Total Turnover

Total turnover is calculated as the number of all full-time employee separations (including voluntary resignations, quits, retirements, involuntary terminations, and reductions-in-force) divided by the average number of fulltime employees in the 12 month period prior to the "as of" date of the survey. Example: there is a monthly average of 100 fulltime jobs in this 12 month period. During the year, 10 employees resign or quit to accept jobs in other organizations; 8 employees are terminated, and two employees retire. There are 20 separations from this company. The turnover rate is: 20/100 = .20 (x 100) = 20%.

Glossary Voluntary Turnover

Voluntary turnover is calculated as the number of all full-time employee separations from voluntary resignations and quits only, divided by the average number of fulltime employees in the 12 month period prior to the "as of" date of the survey. Example: there is a monthly average of 100 fulltime jobs in this 12 month period. During the year, 10 employees resign or quit to accept jobs in other organizations. There are 10 voluntary separations from this company. The voluntary turnover rate is: 10/100 = .10 (x 100) = 10%.
